When it was first mooted last month, the idea of a female-driven take on The Expendables seemed like a cross between a cheap cash-in and the awesomest idea ever, especially with the right cast aboard. Well, the idea is most definitely a reality and the first piece of confirmed casting fills us with hope, as Gina Carano is aboard to star. Carano more than held her own in Stephen Soderbergh’s Haywire and has found the rest of Hollywood slowly waking up to what she can do. She’s been hard at work alongside our close personal friend Dwayne Johnson on Fast Six and is attached to star in John Stockwell’s new thriller In The Blood. "I don't know how I'm supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of The Expendables without Gina Carano in it, said producer Adi Shankar in a statement picked up by Variety. “It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba.” Psst… No one tell Adi that “Jamba” isn’t an actual ingredient in the company’s smoothies. He’s hired Dutch Southern, who hit the 2010 Black List with his script Hoof Harrington’s Greatest Hits, to crank out the script and phones have been ringing in the agents’ offices of big-name female action stars of both the past and present.
