Gunn Confirmed For Marvel's Guardians
Super man makes it official

After Joss Whedon talked about his “twisted” ideas for the characters and concept, James Gunn probably didn’t need to make an official announcement that he’s writing and directing Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. But he has done so anyway, hitting Facebook (via The Hollywood Reporter) to spill on how excited he is to be handed the job.

The man who brought the world Sliver and Super (and, whisper it, wrote both Scooby Doo films) has been installed for a while as keeper of Drax, Groot, Rocket Racoon and the rest.

“For a month or so there’s been a lot of Internet speculation about my involvement with Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy,” writes the famously outspoken filmmaker. “Until now I haven’t said anything, because I’m trying to be less expulsive about this project than I am about the rest of my life. But last night I got the go-ahead from Kevin Feige to let you all know that, yes, indeed, I am rewriting and directing Guardians Of The Galaxy.”

And from the sounds of it, he’s going to be even more radio silent as production gears up. “As a lifelong lover of Marvel comics, space epics, AND raccoons, this is the movie I’ve been waiting to make since I was nine years old. Kevin, Joss, and all the folks at Marvel have been amazing collaborators so far, and we’re committed to bringing you something majestic, beautiful, and unique. I am incredibly excited. And that’s it for now. Other than the occasional photos of my dog and cat here on Facebook, I’ll talk to you again in August 2014 when Guardians is released!”

As he mentions, Guardians is scheduled to hit in August 2014, at least in the US. If you find yourself wondering just who the heck these Guardians are, take a gander at our handy guide.

What's your opinion on Guardians Of The Galaxy so far?
It could be amazing.
It could be dreadful.
It has a bipedal raccoon with a gun. I'm in.
I like James Gunn, I'll see what he brings.
Phase Two? Phase poo, more like.
