Rorschach-Inspired The Master Poster
Paul Thomas Anderson's inkblot one-sheet

18 September 2012  |  Written by Ali Plumb  |  Source: MetroFilms.com

The posters for Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master have all been carefully designed and released by Paul Thomas Anderson himself, resulting in one-sheets like this kaleidoscopic number and this sinister wine-flavoured special.

PTA as we're sure some people must occasionally call him, at least in note form has now released another official poster in the form of this Rorschach-inspired French one-sheet, first seen on a flyer for a secret San Francisco screening.

Mirrored from one side to the other, only the eyes are different, presumably reflecting both the master (Philip Seymour Hoffman's cult leader Lancaster Dodd) and the pupil (Joaquin Phoenix's Freddie Quell) as their differences become apparent over the course of the film.

The poster arrives as the news that The Master has broken US limited opening records, earning $729,745 from five screens nationwide (making an average of $145,949 per screen). Previously, Moonrise Kingdom held the record with $522,996 from four screens in May.

British fans will have to wait until November 2 to watch The Master, with a wider release planned for September 21 in the US.

Great!
What a great poster. Rarely do films live up to the most innovative poster designs though... More
