Philip Seymour Hoffman Grows Moss
He's set to direct Ezekiel Moss

Philip Seymour Hoffman successfully turned director back in 2010 for his indie drama Jack Goes Boating. He’s looking to follow that up with a little genre work, nabbing the chance to make Ezekiel Moss for Mandalay Pictures.

In Treatment writer Keith Bunin (who is also behind the script for soon-to-shoot Joe Hill adaptation Horns) penned the film. It follows what happen when a mysterious stranger with the power to speak to the dead turns up in a small Nebraska town. His appearance naturally has quite an effect on people, notably a widow and her young son.

Given the script’s presence on the 2011 Black List – is there a screenplay in circulation at the moment that hasn’t graced the list? – and Hoffman’s interest, we’re assured it’s not some stealth sequel to Jonah Hex. Because nobody needs that.

While he gathers together the cast for Ezekiel, Hoffman will also be busy on his day job as an actor. He’s scheduled to shoot the role of Plutarch Heavensbee on The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire and will also work on A Most Wanted Man for director Anton Corbijn.

Of course, Hoffman will next be seen in Paul Thomas Anderson’s eagerly-awaited The Master, which received plenty of acclaim at the Toronto Film Festival and is out here on November 2.
