Universal Cracks Open Black Box
Written by Safe House's David Guggenheim

12 September 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Air Force One is arguably America’s most famous aircraft. It’s been featured in numerous films, most notably that one about Air Force One starring Harrison Ford that we just can’t recall the name of right now, but we know it features Air Force One somewhere. The plane is about to be put into danger again, at least if Universal and David Guggenheim have any say in the matter, as the studio has just picked up his script Black Box.

The spec screenplay sees the plane going down over America. Naturally, there’s an investigation, but the man assigned the job finds his life is in danger from a cover-up. You see, the black box contradicts the official story that the craft fell from the sky due to a technical issue, when it actually appears that it was shot down. Cue running, car chases and probably some very dodgy government types.

Guggenheim is something of a hot property with Universal and elsewhere at the moment, given his success selling spec scripts that turn into workable movies. Safe House is the most famous one, and he’s now working on the sequel. But he also sold Medallion to Millennium, which has turned it into a Nic Cage thriller called Stolen, and then there's  Puzzle Palace, set up at Summit with McG on board to direct. Busy, busy… Now, what’s that film featuring Air Force One again?
