With leading man John Hawkes already being talked about as an awards contender come Oscar time, The Sessions wowed the Sundance crowd this year and has been picking up plenty of positive buzz since then. The trailer is now below for you to watch.
Hawkes stars in the film – which once went by the name of The Surrogate – as Mark O’Brien, who has been all but paralysed from the neck down and spends time in an iron lung since he contracted polio.
Now, at the age of 38, he’s looking for love. Or, more accurately, sex. With the aid of his priest (William H Macy) and his shrink, Mark contacts sexual surrogate (and soccer mom) Cheryl Greene (Helen Hunt) and starts exploring the possibilities.
Based on a true story, The Sessions looks to offer a winning combo of warm humour and real heart, and will be out on January 18.
