Gosling Knows How To Catch A Monster
He's directing his first film

30 August 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

Gosling Knows How To Catch A Monster

Ryan Gosling, eh? He acts well, can charm most people at 100 yards, rescues ladies from traffic, loves his dog and now it seems he wants to be a director. The Crazy, Stupid, Love star is currently planning to make his debut with How To Catch A Monster, and has already signed up Drive actress Christina Hendricks to star.

Gosling has also written the script for the movie, which apparently blends fantasy, noir and suspense but is set in the present day. Against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, it finds Billy (Hendricks), a single mother of two, swept into a dark fantasy underworld. While that’s happening, her teenaged son finds a secret road leading into an underwater town. Mother and son must figure out various mysteries if they want to keep their family alive.

It definitely doesn’t sound like your easy, indie rom-com / drama first project for a young actor jumping into the director’s chair, but we’re guessing that more than a little has rubbed off from Gosling’s experience working with Derek Cianfrance and Nicolas Winding Refn, among others. He’s scheduled to begin cranking the cameras in the spring. Time to see what he’s learned…
