Keanu Reeves Chats Bill & Ted 3's Story
And Dean Parisot may direct

13 August 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: GQ

Keanu Reeves Chats Bill & Ted 3's Story

For ages it was one of those whispered rumours; more fevered hope than solid reality. But in the last couple of years, the chance of a third outing for Ted Theodore Logan and Bill S Preston Esq has looked more and more concrete, with both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter talking up a third Bill & Ted and, more importantly, letting slip that original writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon had cooked up a new script. Now Reeves, talking to GQ, has spilled some of the plot details.

What Reeves calls “a nice story” does actually sound like an intriguing way to carry on the chronicle of the two wannabe rock gods. “One of the plot points is that these two people have been crushed by the responsibility of having to write the greatest song ever written and to change the world. And they haven't done it. So everybody is kind of like: 'Where is the song?' The guys have just drifted off into esoterica and lost their rock.”

Upon realising that they’ve hit a wall, the not-so-young duo decide to act. “We go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future ‘us’ refuses to tell us, and another future ‘us’ blames us for their lives because we didn't write the song, so they're living this terrible life,” Reeves says. “In one version we're in jail; in another we're at some kind of highway motel and they hate us.”

Things are still at a tentative stage, however, though Vulture brought word late last week that Solomon and Matheson had brought on Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot to handle directing duties. Even with names attached, there is no studio backing just yet – MGM owns the rights, but all involved are busy meeting with other companies to secure co-financing and Parisot is going to be busy working on the Red sequel.

But it definitely feels as though there’s some real forward momentum. Now we just have to hope any actual movie doesn’t turn out to be totally bogus.
