Drew Goddard Reveals Daredevil Interest
Cabin in Hell's Kitchen?

03 August 2012  |  Written by Owen Williams  |  Source: Collider

Drew Goddard Reveals Daredevil Interest

With director David Slade recently moving on from the mooted Daredevil reboot, and the clock ticking on Fox's option before it expires at the end of the year and reverts to Marvel, it sounds as if the studio could do worse than get Drew Goddard in for a meeting. Collared by Collider at the Saturn Awards, the Cabin In The Woods writer/director revealed a lifelong interest in ol' Hornhead, and the stories Frank Miller gave him in the 1980s.

Asked if he'd have any interest in following his Cabin mentor Joss Whedon into blockbuster superhero territory, Goddard's response was, "If we could find the right project, I would love to do it. You're talking to a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his walls growing up... Fox has most of the stuff that was on my walls as a kid! Conversations always happen, but until anything's official, who knows? But I'll definitely put it out there that I love all these characters. I'm a Marvel/DC kid."

Asked specifically if there were any DD stories he felt were ripe for adaptation, Goddard says that, "Like everyone else, I love Born Again: that was a seminal work for me. Everything Frank Miller did on Daredevil is like the Bible."

Absolutely nothing is formal or set in stone here - it's just Goddard speaking casually - but that "conversations always happen" bit is interesting, perhaps implying that wheels might be turning. Born Again is also already the story that's apparently in development for the new film. Brad Caleb Kane, David Scarpa and, most recently, David James Kelly have worked on drafts of the screenplay. Perhaps one more pass from Goddard could get the film on the Fox fast track?

All mere speculation at the moment, so watch this space for further updates. Collider's interview also sees Goddard play down his recent involvement in extensive World War Z repair work. "That happens all the time," he says. "My involvement was just give some ideas, write some scenes, just sort of fill in stuff. I don't know why it got blown up out of proportion and became a big thing..."

The current UK release date for World War Z is June 21 next year.

Give it back!
Fox has alread proven with BOTH the Fantastic Four and the X-Men franchises (which should have broken all kinds of records) that they have no idea what the hell they are doing. Let the people who know them and more importantly respect the stories do them properly. More

I would rather marvel have it back
But marvel wouldn't make it as dark as what people would hope for in my opinion. It needs to be Touching on the verge of Dark knight Darkness. Well in my opinion. But if all said and done I'd rather marvel have it back so they can do it right. More

Avengers ?
Daredevil has never been an Avenger. Additionally, before slating Daredevil movie #1, check out the director's cut. The additional footage does make it a much better film. More

Agree
I agree; frankly I thought Mark Steven Johnson's director's cut was a great adaption, but if there's to be no follow up to that; then let Marvel take it over, I'd love to see him and Black Widow together. More

How about...
A remake of 'The Trial of the Incredible Hulk' which saw Bill Bixby/ Lou Ferringo's Hulk team up with Daredevil, could be a good way to introduce him to the other Avengers...or not More

Let the rights revert...
... then he can appear in the Avengers franchise! More

Let him goooo
Should let it revert to Marvel so we can have a proper Daredevil film made, that being said i actually liked Ben Afflecks attempt mainly for Bullseye's performance as well as Kingpin but if they are going to redo it then they should let Marvel have their own creation back More

Not a bad shout if Cabin In The Woods is anything to go by & judging by what he's saying he's a fan of old Hornhead it should be all set for a great movie also if they could get Joss involved in some way i'm sure that wouldn't hurt. More
