Warners Has A Beautiful Disaster
Studio wins bidding war for a new novel

Warners Has A Beautiful Disaster

It’s true. We as a civilization have reached a point where the phrase “the next Fifty Shades Of Grey” is an actual thing. But instead of throwing your hands up in despair and finding a rocket to leave Earth in for good, we suggest embracing the chance to find something worth watching. Warner Bros. is hoping that Jamie McGuire’s book Beautiful Disaster might be source fodder for one such project.

The studio has snapped up the rights to the novel after a bidding war against CBS Films. Disaster has a similar trajectory to Grey, published first as a digital novel before attracting a following and then a publishing deal.

McGuire’s tome follows good girl Abby Abernathy, a righteous sort who doesn’t fall for the demon booze or let her mouth be sullied with bad words. She meets sexy bad boy Travis Maddox and they make a bet (really, a chaste good girl making a bet?) – if she wins, he has to abstain from sex for a month. If he triumphs, she moves in with him for the same amount of time.

Apparently the appeal of this one is the romantic tension without the S&M action, which explains why it’s aimed more at the Young Adult crowd. There’s no word on a writer or director set for it yet, but producer Donald De Line is even now setting up meetings to find them.

Fifty Shades Of Shite
Anyone publicly reading a copy of "Fifty Shades Of Grey" might as well hold up a sign saying "I Am A Sad Fucker With No Life." Utter bilge. More
