Chu Looks To Be A Master Of The Universe
Sony wants him to direct

31 July 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Chu Looks To Be A Master Of The Universe

Despite possessing a powerful magic sword and the ability transform into a super heroic Adonis figure Prince Adam – and his alter ego He-Man hasn’t seemingly had the wherewithal to feature in a decent movie or keep the current version of Masters Of The Universe out of the development forest. Now Sony is hoping that Jon M Chu might be the man to help out.

Chu, of course, has had his own issues recently, as his latest film, G.I. Joe: Retaliation was unexpectedly yanked from the release schedule and sent back to the cine-factory for some 3D re-tooling and possibly the addition of extra footage. It'll now see the inside of cinemas on March 29 next year.

But Sony still wants to snag his services for the latest iteration of the Mattel toy line, which has seen various writers (a draft called Grayskull by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch has floated around) and directors including John Woo come and go.

And while the flop-tastic 1987 Masters Of The Universe effort saw He-Man and friends battling Skeletor on Earth, the new one is aimed at maintaining the toy / cartoon’s setting of Eternia. Can it actually work? We’ll have to wait to see…

"I HAVE THE POWER!"
I bet they could do Battle Cat with CGI now and make Skeletor's face look like an actual talking skull instead of a melted plastic mask like the Cannon Films cheapo one in 1987. The man problem with the Dolph Lundgren film is that it was too like Star Wars when it should've stayed true to its own mythology. Who could play He-Man? More

As step down from Woo!
Been anxiously awaiting news for the He-Man movie and this is all very dissapointing. I was excited when John Woo was named as potential director. But we get the GI Joe Director?? Not a happy He-Fan right now. Yes, He-Fan!! More

Hold the phone...
G.I. Joe will now see the inside of cinemas on March 29 next year. A film starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, conveniently release two days before Wrestlemania? Smart move :) More
