Ouija Scares Up New Writers
Stiles White & Juliet Snowden aboard

16 July 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Variety

Ouija Scares Up New Writers

The tortured trip of Hasbro’s Ouija through development has taken yet another turn, with studio backer Universal recruiting a pair of new writers for the planned movie. Styles White and Juliet Snowden are now in place to handle scripting and directing chores.

Very little is known about how the concept of the spooky, spirit-contacting activity will become a fully-fledged thriller, but we do know that Paranormal Activity producer Jason Bloom is on board to oversee the script, so expect relatively low-budget chills.

Ouija has been scary enough already without even reaching cinemas. Originally acquired by Universal, which commissioned drafts for a bigger-budget story from Tron Legacy’s Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, it lingered until Paramount swooped in and grabbed it as a potential vehicle for McG. But nothing happened again until Bloom got involved, which made Universal reconsider. The Platinum Dunes team of Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller is also involved.

White and Snowden have some experience with scares, sharing screen credit on Knowing and having recently written The Possession. From the looks of Variety’s report, they’ll be stepping up to co-direct Ouija.
