Thomas Jane's Punisher Short Online
Time for Dirty Laundry

16 July 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: RAW Studios (via Collider)

Usually when people try to make short films featuring copyrighted characters and post the result on YouTube, they’re slapped with lawyer-penned warnings the minute they hit the radar of the property’s real owners. But what if you’re actor Thomas Jane, a man who has played the character in the past, and you’re doing it with your own studio? We’ll find out soon enough, but the Punisher short Dirty Laundry is now online (spotted by Collider) and can be watched below. Caution - it's extremely violent and sweary. But then, it is Frank Castle, after all...

With a script by Chad St John, it’s a violent, stylish little piece, but we’re still left wondering whether the film boasts enough clout to stay up despite the legal grey area. Especially since it also uses music from Hans Zimmer’s Dark Knight score, which means Warner Bros.’ music department will also probably be getting involved soon…

Thats was frickin' awesome and TOTALLY what The Punisher was about; I've tried very hard to get the memory of Thomas Jane punishing someone with an ice lolly out of my head...this has helped!! :) More

RE: One tough Bottle
I quite liked Ray Stevenson as the Punisher but Warzone was utterly appalling otherwise. More

RE: One tough Bottle
Really enjoyed that, except for the rubbish cgi blood. Love a mini series or antoerh Punisher film that holds no punches. If Perlman is there too then they could strike gold. More

One tough Bottle
What a truly tough bottle of jd.....a few smacks around some heads, then launched like a missile into someones face, smashing to the ground and still not damaged. Thats just the bottle; i would hate to think how strong the drink is :) More

Nolan, Jane, Stevenson
Maybe this is a sly nod to Nolan taking over a new Punisher movie. After all Nolan does deal well with the dark, real, vengeance, retribution stuff. Jane, I like ya.. but you are not right for the role.. stevenson fit the character much better... curious to see where this is going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More

What?
No mention of Ron Perlman as the shopkeeper! Shocking. More

Posted by sonofliberty1 at 20:59 on 17 July 2012 | Report This Post

Did I just see the awesome Ron Pearlman? I can't picture he, not to mention the others, doing this just for fun and the hell of it. Besides, they are seasoned actors, they'd surely know the risk of using copyrighted music and scores and the like. There has got to be more to this. More

Sequel?
That felt very Chris Nolan for some reason, i hope there's a sequel to Thomas Janes Punisher because that was truly spectacular. More

Thomas Jane IS The Punisher
wow, what an excellent surprise! Is he fishing for another Punisher movie? Or maybe Marvel are secretly testing demand for another movie? If so brilliant job. Jane must be in his 40s, which is prolly Castle's age in the comics, so still perfect. The original movie was great despite it's flaws, mainly coz of Jane: "God's going to sit this one out!" haha! Castle is the yin to the superhero yang, and would be awesome seeing him guest star in another Marvel movie. Yes please to another P More

Rights went back last year ...
... as did the rights for Blade. No doubt, if they want to include those 2 in the cinematic universe they will need to lose their R ratings. But many fans will argue that Punisher without the violence simply isn't Punisher. Maybe they should expand Marvel Knights into it's own alternate universe? That would be sweet. Punisher, Blade and Ghostrider in an alternate Avengers-style dream team (or would that be nightmare team?) More

That's pretty cool, right there.
Punisher's had a hard time on the big screen. Jane's was the best (and Jane is a solid actor if you ask me. He's fantastic in Stander). Always thought James Wan could make a great Punisher after seeing Death Sentence, but that's just one man's opinion. I like this short very much. Would pay to see a feature-length version for sure. RE:
Aside from the Batman music and the very brief skull-logo reveal at the end, there's nothing at all in there that would trouble a copyright lawyer (you could have the kid react to what's on the shirt but not actually show the audience - we'd infer what it was and the effect would be pretty much the same). It's a short about Thomas Jane doing his laundry and going vigilante. He uses the word "punishment" but that's not the same as using the word "punisher" and he's never named as Frank Castle. C More

Yep, that's what we need. The Punisher was all about the extreme stuff. This was great. I thought ripping off The Dark Knight's music actually was to it's detriment. More please TJ. More
