You may already know that we enjoyed Grabbers when it played Sundance this year; our own Damon Wise called it “a romantic but surprisingly scary monster movie that feels like a lost Amblin flick, shaken and stirred with a dash of The Guard.” While the movie still appears not to have a general release date set yet, Irish readers will get to see it on August 10. Take a gander at the trailer below.
Set on a sleepy fishing village on an island off the West coast of Ireland, Jon Wright’s monster mash finds Richard Coyle as Ciaran O’Shea, a Garda who is often found getting plastered a the local pub. He tries to sober up a little to welcome new arrival Lisa Nolan (Ruth Bradley), a straight-laced young officer arriving from the mainland. But there’s a much bigger problem to deal with than O’Shea’s addiction to the demon drink: something nasty is lurking in the water.
Soon, tentacled terror is everywhere, local people are disappearing and the village’s only salvation may lie in the boozer…
Grabbers looks like a whole heap of fun and we’re hopeful it’ll be out here as soon as possible.
Tovey has fun in it. Grabbers was a great watch - I'm looking forward to the proper theatrical release to see it again. I think the central concept was fine, and the little community it created worked really well. More
I saw this a little while back at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Was a lot of fun. I think they could have done more with the central concept though. Still it's well worth a look More
