Ice Age 4 Cools The US Box Office

Though it could be taken as a sign that the franchise is losing a little steam, opening as it did to less than the other Ice Age movies, Ice Age 4: Continental Drift still managed to score the top spot at the US box office with $46 million.

That pushed The Amazing Spider-Man down to second place, though the web-slinging hero still managed to earn $35 million. R-rated comedy Ted also held on to a big chunk of its audience, falling to third with $22.1 million and pushing its total earnings to $158.9 million. Pixar’s Brave slipped to fourth with $10.6 million and Magic Mike stayed at fifth, taking home $9 million.

Oliver Stone’s Savages fell to sixth place from fourth, making $8.7 million, with Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection in seventh with $5.6 million. Katy Perry: Part Of Me held at eighth with $3.7 million, Moonrise Kingdom remained solid at ninth and $3.6 million, while Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted saw its audience hit a little by the arrival of the Ice Age gang, falling from seventh to 10th and $3.5 million.
