Oz The Great And Powerful Trailer Online
Sam Raimi wants you to meet the wizard

12 July 2012  |  Written by James White

Sam Raimi received something of a hero’s welcome at Comic-Con, and he brought with him not only Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis, but also the fruits of their collective labours. Or at least the trailer for it… Now the promo for Oz The Great And Powerful is online.

Opening with a real nod to the 1939 Wizard Of Oz, the footage starts in Kansas, in black and white. Here, Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is a small-time magician working circuses and sideshows, who really wants to be something more.

Unfortunately for Oscar, he’s also a philandering cheat and soon has to escape in his trusty balloon. But he’s whisked away to the Technicolor spectacle of Oz, where his greatest adventure lies.

Raimi has pulled out the visual stops for this one, and the Emerald City in particular looks like it could be a showstopper. Oz The Great And Powerful is out on March 8 next year.

If someone in Hollywood only had a brain...
they'd see that this is a totally nuts thing to do. or if they had a heart they'd leave the faultless original alone. or if they had an ounce of courage they'd do something new... But no. No, they have to keep on nicking ideas from absolute classics and in all probability butchering them. I like lots of the people in it and I'm sure Raimi is really hoping to show grumpy gits like me that he's trying to do something great (and powerful) with this. And let me guess, it's not gonna be a musica More

RE: Yueeech!
Could be great or could end up Shite! all comes down to how far "The House Of Mouse" is willing to let Raimi go on this. More

Also, it's in 3D, we get it already, stop throwing things at the camera. More

RE: Yueeech!
The Kansas scenes in the 1939 film were sepia tone, not black and white. More

Yueeech!
Too artificial. Disney spent $200 million to try and re-create Alice? $200 million for a re-imagining based on a book? $200 million? $200 MILLION for a story based around other people's ideas? (facepalm) More
