What is Item 47?
It's Marvel's new superhero short

03 July 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Entertainment Weekly

It has become a tradition for Marvel to put a short film on the Blu-ray / DVD of each of its movie releases. Previously, they’ve featured Clark Gregg’s fan favourite Agent Coulson dealing with troublemakers, but for the Avengers release the company is going in a new direction with Item 47. Entertainment Weekly got a look at imagery from the shoot, which you can see above.

Item 47 follows on from the end of Avengers Assemble, with Lizzy Caplan (pictured) and Jesse Bradford as a cash-strapped couple who find one of the Chitauri’s guns left behind after the big New York battle.

The pair, named Benny and Claire, decides that the weapon might just be the answer to all their financial problems. "The world is topsy-turvy now. There’s been an alien invasion, and things are crazy,” the short’s director and Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito tells EW. “So when this gun literally fell into their lap, this is a sign: We’re going to rob a few banks, we’re going to buy a boat, we’re going to the Caribbean, and all our problems will be solved.”

Of course, it’s not that simple, and soon two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, played by veteran Maximiliano Hernández and new Marvel arrival Titus Welliver, are on the case.

The new short is 12 minutes long, and will be on the Avengers disc when it arrives over here on September 17, with a screening planned for during Comic-Con. For more on Marvel’s plans for other shorts and characters, head to EW’s site.
