Jackie Chan Plots New Action Comedy
He'll be a detective

27 June 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Jackie Chan Plots New Action Comedy

After sparking talk of retirement at Cannes – and quickly hitting his official site to make it clear he was only scaling back the more death-defying stunts as he ages – Jackie Chan is certainly showing no signs of slowing down, lining up his next project.

The film doesn’t currently have a title, but the script, which TV writer Jay Longino is aboard to write, based on an idea from Chan, will see him as a detective who must track down an American gambler who has skipped out on his debt to a Macau casino syndicate. Shades of Midnight Run, then, and the sort of frenetic buddy action comedy that Chan does well when he’s allowed to cut loose and isn’t locked into simply mugging his way through a family friendly CG-fest.

While several of his recent projects have been in Chinese, the new pic will be in English, and will film in Hong Kong, Macau, mainland China and Eastern Europe.

Chan’s latest, Chinese Zodiac, features Oliver Pratt and Caitlin Dechelle and will hit Asia in December. There’s no sign of a UK release date yet.

Chinese Zodia
I have just seen Chinese Zodiac in Dubai - I was looking forward to it as a Jackie Chan movie. It was truly awful, one of the worst movies I have seen!! More
