New Total Recall Trailer Arrives
'This is not a delusion...'

28 June 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Yahoo

submit to reddit

We’ve already seen some footage from the new take on Total Recall, and the latest promo keeps up the feeling that this approach takes the basic framework of the 1990 Paul Verhoeven / Arnold Schwarzenegger film and retools it with more of a Blade Runner / Bourne feel. Take a look below.

While some might miss the Mars / mutant elements, this version – scripted by Kurt Wimmer and Mark Bomback, with Len Wiseman in the director’s chair – finds Quaid (Colin Farrell) living in New Shanghai with wife Lori (Kate Beckinsale). Bored of his staid life, our man goes to Rekall, a company promising to implant real-seeming new memories into noggins. But when the procedure starts, alarm sirens whoop: Quaid is not the man he claims to be…

From there, we’re promised lots of action set pieces with magnetic cars, collapsing roofs, holographic masks and even the most requested nod to the Verhoeven film (we’ll not give it away here in case you’re trying to stay pure; suffice to say, the new footage confirms it.)

The jury’s still out on this one, but with Bill Nighy and Bryan Cranston also in the cast, we’re open to giving it a shot. That’ll happen on August 29. But before that, you can catch the original film back on screens on Friday July 6. If only it were two weeks away. Two weeks… Anyone? Two… weeeeks….

From the trailer, it looks like an odd mix of 'A.I.' and 'Tron: Legacy,' with dashes of 'Minority Report.' So... it looks okay. My fear is that it'll be another 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' or 'Amazing Spider-Man,' awesome looking yet merely okay films that ultimately patter out into, "What was the point?" More

RE: RE:
Surely if there's one thing we should be glad they're taking from the original, be it a homage or a complete rip-off, it's the woman (slash mutant(for the pedants out there)) with three boobs More

L: evildave69 Blah, blah, blah, pointless remakes blah, blah, blah, no originality in Hollywood etc. Come on people, it's not going to be a masterpiece but it looks like a lot of fun. I'm a fan of Farrell (not everything he does is amazing but when he's on it he's really great) and yes I have the original short story, which is nothing like either film, and is actually pretty dull. I'm looking forward to it. Well that's all well and good, and you may have a point about it being fun (th More

RE:
L: BenTramer @Whistler First of all, it's not a "three-boobed lady", it's a three-boobed MUTANT, not the same thing. So the three-boobed mutant is not "a classic pop culture reference" it's a direct, lazy lift from the first movie. There's no point repeating the same image 22 years later. It just seems creatively bankrupt. sn't a reference to Douglas Adams' Triple breasted whores of Eroticon 6? More

Looks like fun!
We might not have the element of surprise, as we all know the story, but it still looks like fun, looks fast, looks like a great use of CGI. Superb cast too - can't wait!! More

Maybe!
Ok, well Len Wiseman is exactly well known for being a great directer and if it was David Cronenberg ( who was once attached to direct this back in the 80's ) then I would definitely be excited. But maybe this could be his breakthrough, only time will tell I guess. From the trailer though it does look pretty good but I still don't think I'll like it as much as Arnie's version! More

RE:
L: BenTramer I see they've used the old 3 tits mutant gag again. Not a good sign when a remake copies so much. t's not just copying it, it's paying a little bit of homage to the original. The three-boobed lady is a classic pop culture reference. I was worried she o be in it. More

Looks promising
Whoever said this was a shot-for-shot rip off has obviously never seen the original! Sure there are a lot of elements from the originial but if there weren't then it wouldn't be a re-make would it? Action scenes look good, looks like Farrell is putting in a good shift and the effects look up to scratch. Just wish there was a cameo from Arnold... More
