Ryan Reynolds Is Highlander
There can be only Juan

Ryan Reynolds Is Highlander

A double-dose of '80s reboot news to delight/horrify you this dank afternoon. Following on from some interesting Starship Troopers news earlier, it's emerged that Ryan Reynolds will be kilting up to play Connor MacLeod in the new Highlander.

Reynolds' casting has circulated the rumour mill for a few weeks now, with Summit in talks with the Canadian, and that news is official: Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's man is Green Lantern, Deadpool and him off The Proposal all wrapped neatly into one chiselled package.

He has the charisma, he has the physique and he's handy with a sword (as he demonstrated in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) but can he handle  the dodgy French accent the expectations of Highlander's antique-but-still-dedicated fan base? Time will tell.

The screenplay comes from Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway who've teamed up with Twilight: Breaking Dawn scribe Melissa Rosenberg to nugget out the story, presumably scrawled in the blood of the immortals. Watch this space for more as we get it.

While I dont think Ryan is the worst choice and im a fan of alot of his work, even Greenlantern! :) BUT!  I think the role is perfect for a arrelle the Scottish clan backstory to an Irish/celt clan, Colin can keep his own accent (always at his best that way), hes got the right unshaven/heavy brow look and personally I cant think of anyone better to deliver some of those lines " Its a kind of magic" etc. Seeing a zoom shot onto Farrells mug at the end of the mo More

Just get the fella who plays Robb Stark in GOT
How fucking hard is that?!?! He's got the accent, he's got the acting chops, he's rugged and boyish at the same time (for a ginger). Surely he'd be a shiteside better as Mcleod. What about the Stath as the Kurgen? "There can be only one...you fackin' caaaaant!" More

Soundtrack
Although I have a spooky feeling that this remake of Highlander will be naff, what really made the original so great - for me anyway - was the Queen soundtrack. They have to get the soundtrack right, I nominate Muse!!. Get rid of 'It's a Kind of Magic' but please please keep 'Princes of the Universe', write some new songs but leave Freddie (Mercury) to sing 'Who Wants to LIVe Forever'. More

He's a good actor and has the charisma for it but he doesn't look rugged enough. He's far too pretty. Michael Fassbender would have been perfect. More

RE: Ryan Reynolds Is Highlander
Ryan Reynolds is not a bad actor at all. Yes, he's done some bad films- but who hasn't? He gets a lot of stick for Green Lantern, but every bad review I read had nothing but good things to say about him. All the criticism was aimed at the script, effects and Blake Lively. Anyone who doesn't think he can do the serious stuff should check out Buried or The Nines, which were both fantastic. However, even as a HUGE fan of his, I'm not sure he's right for this. I've never seen the original the More

"This cannot be, it's the devil's work. "
I'm fan of the original and the news of a remake made me shudder but i've always thought if done right it would be great to have an updated version because some scenes are quite dated but the news of Reynold's playing Macleod has made me shudder once again. I don't mind him but he's wrong for this part, they should have casted an unknown to play the part and have someone like Tom Hardy playing The Kurgan. I'll wait for the trailer because i could be wrong but i remain unconvinced by the casting More

Hmmmm!
Well this decision does seem to be causing a bit of a stir and I can see why. Reynolds isn't a terrible actor but the problem here is his previous films haven't been the best scripts and certainly haven't been huge success'. There are plenty of very good English actors out there that would suit the part so why a Yank? I've always been a fan of the original but I'm not going to write this off and start slating it before I at least see a trailer. You never know, Reynolds could surprise us! More

Highlander continues made of fail.... :(
So, Lionsgate/Summit, your rape of the '80s continues unabated, even after the Conan the Barbarian remake worked out SOooooo well for your finances.. Well, just to make your Highlander remake. faît accompli of fail, I've got some interesting casting choices to match your level of competancy. Get this: as Ramirez you need Andy Dick, obviously. Tom Green as the Kurgan is also an inspired choice. And of course, you'll need your music biz tie-ins, so why not have Justin Beiber cover It's a More

"Nuns...no sense of humour!"
I saw the original Highlander in the cinema and then rented it on VHS, for that analogue indignity alone, I should decide who gets cast. My heart sank when I read Ryan Reynolds would be MacLeod. Something wrong about that. He's too Hollywood and will bring a lot of baggage that will stop him being the everyman that MacLeod should be. More

Hollywood needs to be shown
Clearly Hollywood thinks it is acceptable to put unrelatable, metrosexual, 'leading' males in sacred man's man films, personally this is beginning to irritate me. Add a Twilight writer and they are clearly trying to attract teenage girls to films that traditionally they would have no interest in. Every self respecting male should boycot these films to show Hollywood we are sick of their profiteering, re-boots of old film franchises and pilfering of decent outside media (comics and books). They a More

RE: Ryan Reynolds Is Highlander
I actually like Reynolds but I don't think he's right for this role. The bad guy should be a quipster, not the hero. Gerard Butler would have been better, at least he has the accent. Oh, and what's this 'double dose of 80's reboot news' nonsense? Starship Troopers was a (late) 90s film..... More

IS NOTHING SACRED?????
Whilst the Highlander franchise is a mess and the original has aged worse than Lindsey Lohan on drugs, it's still a cult classic.
