Jurassic Park 4 Gets New Writers
Planet Of The Apes duo go dino

21 June 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

Jurassic Park 4 Gets New Writers

After lurking in the bushes of limbo for years, occasionally leaping out with tales of genetically modified soldier dinos and cities overrun, word on Jurassic Park 4 seemed destined to stay as rumour. But then last year, shortly before Comic-Con, word emerged that head warden Steven Spielberg was developing other ideas for the fourth trip to Isla Nubla and its environs with Mark Protosevich. At the event itself last July, Spielberg confirmed that they were working on stories. Fast-forward to today, and Deadline reports that Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes writing team Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are aboard to craft the script.

Given their experiences with genetically tinkered creatures gone wild, they seem like a good call, especially since they were able to inject so much real feeling into what could have been your average ape adventure.

Details are naturally scarce, with Spielberg and co-producer Kathleen Kennedy guarding information like a T-Rex protecting its young. We do know, however, that the man who brought us the first two movies is handing over the megaphone to someone else, as he did with Joe Johnston and Jurassic Park 3.

For now, the project remains snuffling in the development undergrowth, but this is another real sign of life. If you’re craving actual dino footage, however, you’ll have to wait until the original movie arrives back in cinemas with a 3D conversion on July 19, 2013 in the States and possibly the same day here.

RE: Oh dear
It ain't necessarily so. New writers at this stage of development is not a problem- in fact it's good, it shows a determination to get it right. Many great movies have had many writers polishing scripts. It's mid-filming rewrites that often indicate trouble (Men in Black 3 being a recent example) More

Jurassic Park's coming back to cinemas in 3D? No need. I saw it on the big screen last year (or the year before), in 2D, and it was every bit as amazing as it always was. As for JP4, well, I didn't mind 3, but this one has to be better. More

This is brilliant news. And poo poo to the haters (and a poo towards my fave mag, Empire, as they WILL give it a low rating if/when it comes out as they hate sequels/prequels. Well, actually you lot are pretty odd about that, as (though he did give it only a few stars) Ian Nathan's review of Prometheus was complaining about the lack of xenomorphs...And that was despite of months before of Ridley Scott SAYING they wouldn't be in it save, perhaps, a tiny reference. Wuv you really. And you Ian Nath More

wish spielberg was directing though
but i guess we can't have everything. saw Jaws at the cinema the other day. 35 years since I'd seen it on the big screen. It's where great movies should be and although JP isn't up to the lofty heights of big Bruce, it'd still be good to see it there. no 3D needed though - it just smells of money, never a cool thing More

Having Their Jaffa Cake And Eating It...
Good to know that Spielberg was impressed with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. It will be interesting to see what Jaffa and Silver do with this, hopefully they won't just phone it in for a big payday and can impart some of the intelligence and dramatic tension that made Rise such a winner. More
