Raging Bull II Is Now Shooting
William Forsythe Is Jake LaMotta

Raging Bull II Is Now Shooting

There are some movies you might wish to ignore in the fervent hope that that would cause them to cease existing. But that policy rarely works, even if you close your eyes and wish really, really hard. Case in point? The Raging Bull hybrid prequel-sequel (pre-sequel?), which is now shooting in Los Angeles and on the Universal lot.

All right, so we shouldn’t judge the film before a single shot has been seen by anyone outside of the production. But high on the list of movies that really weren’t asking for either prequel- or sequelisation must surely fall Martin Scorsese’s blistering 1980 boxing biopic of Jake LaMotta.

Memorably brought to life by Robert De Niro, the pugilist is being played in this case by The Rock’s William Forsythe. Exact plot details are still under wraps, but we do know it’ll see Forsythe playing LaMotta in his older years and Mojean Aria as the younger Jake, with the script adapted from La Motta’s own tome.

Also in the cast are Tom Sizemore, Penelope Ann Miller, Natasha Henstridge, Alicia Witt, Ray Wise, Harry Hamlin and Bill Bellamy. There’s no word on when it’ll hit our screens.

Can we get like a Top Ten or like a "20 films" for sequels/prequels we never asked for with directors we never wanted? Then add Red Dragon Hannibal Rising, Terminator Salvation, the planned American Psycho, and the Mummy tomb of the dragon Emperor in there somewhere. More
