Michael Haneke's Amour Wins Palme d'Or
And all the winners from Cannes 2012

27 May 2012  |  Written by James White

With the signs and posters being taken down and the litter being swept, the 2012 Cannes Film Festival is now wrapped up. But before everything finished, there was time to hand out the awards, with Michael Haneke’s Amour taking home the Palme d’Or.

The plaudit for the director’s latest work was greeted with a long standing ovation. Not every award was given such respect, with Grand Prix winner Reality given decidedly more cool treatment, and Carlos Reygadas’ win as Best Director for Post Tenebras Lux also seemed a controversial choice. Cristian Mungiu’s Beyond The Hills was the biggest winner, taking home the screenplay award and sharing the Best Actress trophy between two of its performers. Britain, meanwhile, was represented by Ken Loach, whose The Angels’ Share got the Jury Prize.

Here’s the full list of winners.
