The Great Gatsby Trailer Waltzes In

There have been pictures, but now prepare to get your first proper look at Baz Luhrmann’s take on F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic tale of toffs, tattle-tales and tragedy, The Great Gatsby. Yes, the trailer is here, and Apple’s site requests the pleasure of your company to take a look.

Luhrmann has rounded up a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Isla Fisher, and Callan McAuliffe for what looks like a sumptuous take on Fitzgerald’s tale.

The plot finds aspiring writer Nick Carraway (Maguire) pitching up in New York and beyond in the spring of 1922 and becoming drawn into the mysterious, decadent and party-heavy world of Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio). This is the playground of the super-rich, flush with cash yet endlessly bored with life and looking for the next diversion. But there is still passion here, and betrayal, and soon death will come calling.

This is Luhrmann on full visual power and typically modern soundtracking, with the trailer mostly focused on the jewel-bedecked soirees, but also peeking at the darker nooks and crannies of the story. We’ll get to see if he’s pulled the whole thing off when the film arrives (in 3D) on December 26.

Surely, with this story and the perfectly-cast Leo on board it's impossible to cock this movie up? Still, looks like Baz is doing his best to do exactly that. Really not a fan of this trailer. Why does he insist on making everything look like an advert for Chanel? More

It's Jack White covering U2's 'Love Is Blindeness' for the Q magazine 20th anniversary of 'Acthung Baby!'. The rest of it is similarly triff should you pallet be U2 covers. I can highly recommonded the Glasvegas, Nine Inch Nails and Patti Smith covers also. More

Looks garish!
This is one of my favourite books, so I am looking forward to it. However the CGI and sets look garish rather than classy. No doubt it will be great though with its great cast! More

Look Great
So sick of people moaning about 3D, that's what the 2D option is for! I love 3D, when it's done properly, it looks amazing. I like the added depth. The movie looks great even though the trailer seems a bit smashed together. It happened with digital, it's happening with Peter Jackson and his 48FPS. Some people are just unwilling to move with the times. More

Although the entire trailer looks magnificent in selling itself extremely well, my only query is along with probably so many others that will end up watching this trailer is why is it in 3D? What part of the trailer is actually required in 3D? More
