Sandra Bullock On For Cop Comedy

Last year, Bridesmaids did more than just become one of the most successful comedies and launch Kristen Wiig’s career to the next level: it also provided a healthy boost for both director Paul Feig and scene stealer Melissa McCarthy. The pair are now reconnecting for a new film, and have roped in Sandra Bullock for the untitled cop comedy.

The buddy script comes from Katie Dippold, who has been honing her comedy chops on US sitcom Parks And Recreation. The story finds an upright FBI agent (we’re guessing Bullock – she’s got form with the Bureau) and an unconventional Boston cop (sounds like something McCarthy could win with) forced to work together.

20th Century Fox is looking to get this one shooting this summer to take advantage of McCarthy’s break from her own TV job on Mike And Molly. And to get in before any of the trio’s other bubbling projects can intercede.

Feig is developing several other potential directing jobs, including a remake of French pic Intouchables, Reese Witherspoon comedy Wish List and The Better Woman. McCarthy is at work on Identity Thief with Jason Bateman and has Tammy plus at least one other project cooking. She’ll next be seen in Judd Apatow’s This Is 40. Bullock has filmed Alfonso Cuaron’s ambitious space drama Gravity and has a variety of films vying for her attention, including One Of The Guys and Most Wanted, which would see her reunite with Proposal co-star Ryan Reynolds. Let's hope they can all find time in there to bring this one together.
