Ryan Reynolds Wanted For Highlander
He may be the latest 'only one'...

20 May 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Variety

Ryan Reynolds Wanted For Highlander

He may not have met with huge success with in last stab at an iconic character (Green Lantern), but that isn’t deterring Ryan Reynolds from considering another. The actor is in talks to take on the lead in Summit Entertainment’s Highlander reboot.

With Intruders’ Juan Carlos Fresnadillo calling the shots from Art Macum and Matt Holloway’s script, the new version of the 1986 fantasy action classic is being kept largely under wraps, though naturally there will be immortal types fighting to behead one another because there can, after all, be only one.

Reynolds, who has the success of the recent Safe House as a card to play in negotiations, is nowhere near locked in according to Variety: he’s only in early discussions about the role and has a variety of other jobs under consideration, not to mention a legion of Deadpool fans who are getting increasingly frustrated at the slow progress of the Marvel character’s stand-alone film. Reynolds will be heard in two DreamWorks ‘toons, The Croods and Turbo, and will be on screen alongside Jeff Bridges in R.I.P.D., all of which hit next year.

RE: Reynolds is no McCloud!
my first thought was Gerard Butler for the role too - but Chris Hemsworth is a good choice too. i like Ryan too - maybe he could pull off the role More

Reynolds is no McCloud!
This would be a total miscast, Reynolds seems a random choice and there are much better actors out there who would suit the role. Christian Bale would be an interesting choice!!! More

Aww Hell No!
Scottish actor please... there's plenty to go around... well three: Butler, McAvoy, and McGregor! And I wouldn't mind it if an Irishman, Fassbender, would do it. But Ryan Reynolds?! BARF! And I agree with a couple of the comments above about how the sequels haven't been all that great, actually they've been shite, but Reynolds isn't really gonna help the franchise... imo, it'll prob sink it completely. oi More

Why not!
Why not Ryan Reynolds? With Antonio Banderas as Ramirez. Though the first film isn't in such a great need for a remake/reboot, the poor sequels certainly are! More

RE:
I think Butler would be ace - they really have to go for a Scottish actor this time around, surely! Banderas is also a great shout for Ramirez, it seems like this one is casting itself! The Kurgan - that's really tricky because Clancy Brown was so brilliant, pretty much stealing the movie from Lambert and even Schean himself. More

Reynolds is a horrible, horrible idea....
For my money, I'd go with James Mcavoy for McCloud (you know, a scotsman!) Antonio Banderas for Ramirez. Whether there's a Kurgan or not remains to be seen, just please don't cast a wrestler ffs.... More

nooooooooooooooooooooooooo
agree with fassbender being the clear choice and maybe micheal shannon as kurgan, let that broccli heade long face horse reynolds go back to being that glowing cabage called green lantern More

There can be no Ryan Reynolds
MacLeod goes to Fassbender hands down. For the kurgan i can see Mads Mikkelsen or Tom Hardy. Ewan McGregor Daniel Craig for Ramirez. More

RE: Ryan Reynolds Wanted For Highlander
It would be nice to have an actual Scottish actor playing the role for a change but if not, it's no big deal. EDIT: I wish people would stop changing the titles of the threads, there's no reason for it. It seems to happen more often in Movie News and the Reviews forum. Anyone know why? More

@marlowe9
Ummm dude no one in the original was Scottish. Sorry that's wrong there was one fella, Sean Connery but through the mastery of casting he was an Egyptian Spaniard called Ramirez. Considering Lambert couldn't speak a word of English let alone do it a Scottish accent I think Reynolds is as good as anyone else to fill the kilt. Course if this goes ahead I may lose my mind considering they've done the highlander thing to death! Cursed immortal asses that they are!!! Sure accent doesn't matter anyway More

Posted by peggus at 20:43 on 20 May 2012 | Report This Post

Can't see it
Nope, really can't see Reynolds pulling off the Scots accent or the weird 'everywhere' accent of the 21st century MacLeod, or the air of mystique. Need a more rugged, less American actor for the role. More
