Wahlberg Joining The Disciple Program
He's attached to a new thriller

Wahlberg Joining The Disciple Program

Mark Wahlberg just can’t stay away from thrillers. He’s attached to yet another example of the genre, with Universal snatching up the rights to Tyler Marceca’s script The Disciple Program.

Headhunters director Morten Tyldum is also loosely connected to the project, which, assuming it goes ahead with all involved, would see Wahlberg as a man investigating his wife’s mysterious death. Because this sort of story would be awfully boring if it turned out she ate a bad cupcake, there’s naturally a conspiracy to be unravelled. Yep, the mystery deepens…

Screenwriter Marceca boasts one of those out-of-nowhere stories – hailing from Brooklyn with no agent and no connections, he scribbled the first ten pages of the script for a competition, and then submitted the finished version to online review site Script Shadow. When it hit the top ranks of the site, studios and agents came calling…

Naturally, the next step is for the project to spend some time paddling in the development pool, so it might be a while before there’s movement, especially since Wahlberg has a packed schedule. He was last on screen in Contraband, has comedy Ted coming up on August 1, worked on Broken City and most recently filmed Pain And Gain. Wahlberg is set to shoot 2 Guns and Lone Survivor next. Tyldum is also in development on future sextuplet thriller What Happened To Monday?
