Isabelle Fuhrman is no stranger to creepy or lethal types; she’s generally playing one or the other, as with the odd, dangerous Esther in Orphan or Clove in The Hunger Games. But David Gordon Green is giving her the chance to see things from another perspective, after casting her in his long-gestating remake of Suspiria.
Green has written a new script with Chris Gebert, which roughly follows the plot of Dario Argento’s 1977 original chiller. In it, a girl named Suzie travels to Europe to attend a renowned school, only to find out that the place is the front for a powerful, vindictive coven of witches.
The film will be one of many selling rights at Cannes, and Green is gearing up to crank the cameras in September, realising a dream he’s had since before the likes of Pineapple Express and The Sitter.
Fuhrman has worked on indie drama The Healer and is currently shooting M Night Shyamalan’s After Earth alongside Will Smith and Jaden Smith.
