Paul Rudd Set For They Came Together
Amy Poehler will co-star in the parody

Paul Rudd Set For They Came Together

The formulas of the rom-com genre have come in for a fair amount of ribbing over the years, and not just from the Date Movie crowd. But now a filmmaker with a little more comedy range is stepping into the fray, with Role Models director David Wain planning to put Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler together for parody They Came Together.

Rudd will be Joel, a guy who works for a massive corporation. When he meets Molly (Poehler), it’s hate at first sight, since his company is looking to put her quirky small store out of business. But then they fall for each other, as convention dictates they must, moving through the typical on-again, off-again relationship, we suspect. Please don't confuse this with You've Got Mail.

Wain, who is coming off a serious box office stumble with Wanderlust (which also starred Rudd) is switching to micro-budget for this script, which he wrote with regular collaborator Michael Showalter back in the days following cult comedy hit Wet Hot American Summer. He’s finally getting it made via Lionsgate.

Rudd and Poehler both appeared in Wet Hot, and we firmly expect other Wain regulars, including former State colleagues Ken Marino, Michael Ian Black and more to make cameos at least.

Poehler has spent most of her time recently starring in US sitcom Parks And Recreation (on which Rudd is currently enjoying a guest-starring turn) but has recently shot A.C.O.D. and is now working on Matthew Weiner’s You Are Here. Rudd has been busy, shooting Lucky Dog and with Judd Apatow’s This Is 40 and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower already finshed. He has a few other projects bubbling away, but we’re mostly excited about him returning to play Brian Fantana in Anchorman 2.
