Clark Gregg Joins Labor Day
For director Jason Reitman

08 May 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Clark Gregg Joins Labor Day

When Empire sat down with Clark Gregg for the latest issue, we rattled off a list of the impressive filmmakers that the writer-actor has worked with in his career. Now we can add Jason Reitman to the tally, as Gregg has joined the cast of Labor Day.

Reitman’s latest already boasts Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, James Van Der Beek, Maika Monroe, Gattlin Griffith and Tom Lipinski in the story of Adele (Winslet) a divorcee figuring out life with her son (Griffith).

On a day out, the pair picks up a stranger, Frank (Brolin), who turns out to be an escaped convict. But instead of being threatening, he ends up teaching the lad some life lessons. The story, which Reitman adapted from Joyce Maynard’s novel, also flashes back to Frank’s younger days, and how he met the love of his life.

There’s no word yet on whom Gregg will be playing, but we’re honestly just happy to see him keep on working. Reitman plans to kick off shooting next month.

Gregg, as if you didn’t already know, is currently stealing scenes in The Avengers (Assemble) as Agent Phil Coulson. He’s also got films such as Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing, comedy drama Light Years and raunchy giggle-fest The To-Do List in various stages of post-production.

While we can’t prove that Gregg appearing in the same Empire news section as Reitman meant they were fated to work together, it is scientific fact. Our theory will hopefully be borne out by Cobie Smulders signing on to Wes Anderson’s next film. Get on that, people!

Finally, the Gregg (and Smulders, and Reitman)-featuring issue of the mag is in shops now. That gurgling sound? Somewhere a sink is missing a PLUG.
