Killer Joe Trailer Online
Matthew McConaughey is lethal

08 May 2012  |  Written by James White

William Friedkin’s comedy thriller Killer Joe has hit controversy in the last few days, with American ratings board the MPAA slapping the Matthew McConaughey film with a potentially revenue-damaging NC-17 certificate. We’ll get to see it in June, and now a trailer is online (spotted by The Playlist), which you can watch below.

Killer Joe follows the misfortunes of Chris Smith (Emile Hirsch), whose life is put in danger when he falls deeply into debt to some very bad people. With his legal options exhausted, he turns to a much more dangerous scheme: he’ll find someone to murder his mother so he can collect the $50,000 promised by her life insurance policy.

The man he tries to hire to get the job done is a notorious one – “Killer” Joe Cooper (McConaughey) a smooth-talking detective who runs a side business in bumping people off. But his terms are strict, and in order to keep him on retainer, Chris offers up his sister, Dottie (Juno Temple). Things quickly turn darker and, if the early word on the film is right, funnier.

There’s a chance the trailer could be vaguely spoilery, so be forewarned. But this makes the movie look like it could boast McConaughey’s best performance in a while.

Killer Joe will be out on June 29.
