Guy Pearce Set For Iron Man 3

Guy Pearce Set For Iron Man 3

Guy Pearce is all over our screens this weekend, starring as wisecracking bruiser Snow in Lockout, and all over this site, too as you can hear him chat about it on the latest Empire Podcast. So it pleases us that he’s now lining up a big, exciting new job, with Variety reporting Pearce will appear in Iron Man 3.

Before we proceed with any further info, be warned that even knowing who Pearce will be playing could be considered a spoiler, so those who might cry foul should skip away.

Right then… As has been previously talked about, the plot of Shane Black’s take on Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark will draw from Warren Ellis' Iron Man: Extremis six-issue run on the comics. It's not all that surprising, as Ellis’ work has been running through the cinematic incarnation of Stark since the first movie.

The third film will see Stark dabbling with nanotechnology, which is created by geneticist Aldrich Killian - and that's the role earmarked for Pearce. When it gets into the hands of terrorists (including, presumably, the recently-cast Sir Ben Kingsley) and a new threat is developed, Tony decides to try his own take on it.

Don Cheadle and Gwyneth Paltrow are slated to reprise their roles, and Black, who co-wrote the script with Drew Pearce (no relation, that we know of), will kick off shooting in North Carolina next month. The film is set for release on May 3, 2013.

Pearce (Guy, that is, not Drew) is next slated to appear in Prometheus. So at least he knows what he’s getting into in terms of having to stay quiet about plot points…

anyone notice how the photo they put up of Pearce looks kinda reminisent of how Sam Rockwell looked in Iron Man 2 with the glasses and all? More

So we're getting ...
... Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, the one and only RDJ, Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle in an Iron Man movie co-written and directed by Shane Black? Is that right?! If so, I'm going to have to go to my quiet place and chew my fist in excitement because that's flippin' AWESOME and I might be a danger to others until I calm down. More

Basic writing tips
I like how you warn us about how even knowing who Pierce will play will be a spoiler, and then YOU DON'T EVEN SAY WHO HE IS GOING TO PLAY. I presume by the format of the text and the fact that it's almost the only character name there, that it's geneticist Aldrich Killian. But just to make this clearer to some of the foreign readers, you should write it down more plainly. The subheader says "He'll play a key role..." and you have to read the article twice just to see if you missed some More

RE: This is great news.
i reckon extremis was always on the cards, given that Adi Granov's iron man design was used for the movie... guy pearce will no doubt play the far right extremist who almost kills iron man. they'll have to tone the story line down tho, its really dark and violent in places More

This is great news.
Hooray!!! So glad to hear he's getting involved. Admittedly a good script is all important. But the chance to see him and Robert Downey Jr go toe to toe is going to be a feast for the senses. More

Great casting
If all plot ideas are correct this is shaping up to be a great movie, Extremis is a great story line that I've always thought should be adapted to film More

Pearce is one of those actors who makes the movie he's in better with just his presence. More
