Cannes 2012 Line-Up Unveiled
Say bonjour to Cosmopolis & Paper Boy

19 April 2012  |  Written by Phil de Semlyen

The 65th Cannes Film Festival kicks off on May 16 and the full line-up has now been revealed by the Festival's grand fromages. Alongside official opener, Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, will be an array of cinematic showstoppers, with directors of the calibre of David Cronenberg, Abbas Kiarostami, Ken Loach, Michael Haneke and Walter Salles (On The Road, pictured) all vying for the Palme d'Or.

Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, which has a new trailer this very day, is immediately eye-catching - the Canadian has never won the prestigious gong, despite three previous nominations - but Jacques Audiard's A Prophet follow-up Rust & Bone, Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly (formerly 'Cogan's Trade') and Lee Daniels' The Paperboy are also intriguing entrants. With a cast that boasts the ever-screamworthy Zac Efron, the latter should have residents of the Croisette taping up their windows.

The great Alain Resnais will be one of the festival's oldest filmmakers. The director, now the venerable age of 90, is in competition with You Haven’t Seen Anything Yet.

Cannes president Gilles Jacob and his artistic director Thierry Fremaux shared the festival's official selection at a Parisian press conference this morning. For the full line-up and a look at the Out Of Competition selection - which includes, intriguingly, a return from Bernardo Bertolucci - head over to the official festival website.

Cannes runs from May 16-27.
