First Django Unchained Poster Arrives
QT's latest goes minimalist

12 April 2012  |  Written by James White

It must be nice to be Quentin Tarantino. Not just for the fact that you make good movies and hang out with cool people, but that your name is currency enough to launch a poster for your latest without mentioning its actual title. But that’s just how the first, minimalist poster for Django Unchained rolls, and you can see it lurking below.

Django, of course, finds Jamie Foxx as the titular former slave, who trains to become a bounty hunter and goes looking to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from the clutches of the nasty Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).

A recent addition to the cast is telly and film veteran Walton Goggins (currently to be found as the cunning and charismatic Boyd Crowther on Justified), who is on to play slave wrangler Billy Crash. Chatting with GQ (via the keen eyes at The Playlist), Goggins talked up his glee at getting to work with QT. "This movie is radical. It's like a kid walking into a candy store, to use a trite, overused metaphor. I can't believe it. I just started work this week, and my very first day, I'm looking up, and there's Quentin. I'm in Quentin's world, in his imagination.

“His cinematic acumen is unparalleled, and he's able to draw from all these resources, which are all the movies that have ever been made. He's seen most, if not all of them, and he really is an auteur. He's a savant auteur who is as passionate and as playful as any artist I've ever worked with. His enthusiasm is infectious, and the story is a movie that only Quentin Tarantino could make."

Django Unchained will be out on January 18 next year.

Solid poster. It's eye catching and has a good sense of style. I'm not sure it has a big impact on me, but compared to most posters in this day and age it at least feels like it's got a distinct vision. More
