Chris Nolan Talks The Dark Knight Rises
Plus, Anne Hathaway on her gym time...

Chris Nolan Talks The Dark Knight Rises

As we creep ever closer to the July 20 release for The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan and his cast have started to open up a little more about the slightly anticipated final entry in his Bat-franchise. When we say “a little more,” that's emphasis on "little", as this is Nolan and co, after all, who might as well work for the secret services for all the information they’re usually willing to part with. But chatting to EW, Nolan has been talking up the movie’s two big new characters, Bane and Selena Kyle, AKA Catwoman.

“He represents formidable physical strength, combined with absolute evil of intention,” says Nolan of the former, played by Tom Hardy. Which isn’t exactly news given that everything we’ve seen of the man’s actions so far scream danger and power.

He’s slightly more forthcoming on his vision for Kyle, calling her “a shifty cipher, calloused survivor, and world-class criminal.” For Anne Hathaway, who was tasked with bringing her to life, the physical challenge was the tough part. “Chris sat me down at the beginning and said, ‘Joseph Gordon-Levitt did all of his own fighting in Inception. That one zero gravity fight? He trained for two months.’ I basically left his office and went to the gym and just came out about five minutes ago.”

For more from Nolan, Hathaway and Hardy, head over to EW. But there are also one or two new pictures lurking out there, including an impressive high-res shot of Hathaway in costume. Though given the rate the image is being torn from the web by the studio (no, it’s not because it puts the “Rises” into The Dark Knight Rises newly-earned PG-13 rating), you might have to be quick. We'd expect more official versions to arrive soon enough.

RE: Why has this not been reported? Is it bull?
L: blackduck Is there a definitave comic version of Batman? I've not read a lot of the comic stuff but from what I've read the tone and characters can vary a lot, and for every killing joke there is an awful lot of shite. The current movies are no more or less authentic than the Adam West tv series. lot of the later comics have the tone down really well. A lot of the New 52 series are fantastic in terms of characterisation. But for the best example, check out some of the cutsce More

L: adambatman82 L: dreamdragon The people at WB want to reboot Batman with Ryan Reynolds? If he plays any more superheros he Will have to play mystic. That was an April Fools gag. as it really? Oh thank god! I saw it reported on a fansite and panicked. I love Ryan but if WB are keeping him on as a superhero, I'd prefer they did Green Lantern 2. More

L: Kayotik Well what I often do is say "You loved Arkham Asylum and City right? Well those were really close adaptations of the comics and the characters, so imagine that as a movie trilogy instead." and they agree that it has the possibility to be superior. long as it's not done by Michael Bay.] That much we can agree on or the record I thought the story for Arkham City was pants, Asylum was much tighter and easily the best of the 2 as a result but yeah a film set in the s More

L: Harry Tuttle L: Kayotik Whilst good films, I still feel Nolan's Batman stories were the furthest removed from the source material. Being a fan of the comics, I had many problems with so many changes to the characters and - in my opinion - the terrible cast choices. Hathaway looks like she's heading off to a sexy halloween party. Hardy looks more ridiculous in every photo. He looks like a villain from a 90's computer game like Streets of Rage! And Bale...don't get me st More

L: Harry Tuttle I can't see what difference that makes to their enjoyment of the films to be honest. Are you saying they aren't allowed an order of preference for the Batman films because they don't read the comics? o not at all. My point was that I state that I'm not a huge fan of the Nolan films because of how different they are to the comics. My friends then will decry how wrong I am about my opinions (?!) and that Nolan's films are the best Batman films there can be without ever More

Why is there love fo Pfeiffers version?
Last time I checked, the character wasn't supernatural, didn't have 9 lives and wasn't a psychopath who was murdered by her boss. Burtons great, but he butchered both Catwoman and The Penguin in Batman Returns. Stop saying Pfeiffer was the perfect catwoman, she wasn't, she was a mental person in leather. More

L: BenTramer I thought the Dark Knight was way overrated and not as good as Batman Begins, so I'm a little sceptical about this one. Christan Bale's growling and Tom Hardy talking with that thing over his face, it's going to be tough-going listening to dialogue in this oneny actress playing Catwoman has to measure up to Michelle Pfeiffer's purrfect take and avoid Halle Berry's cat turd go. eah I thought that too lol.
