Emmerich Up For White House Down
In talks for the action drama

Emmerich Up For White House Down

Hasn’t the White House suffered enough at the hands of Roland Emmerich? He destroyed it in Independence Day and damaged it again in 2012. So you would think he’d had enough of troubling one of the most famous addresses in the world. But no, now he’s in talks to direct the hot action drama spec script White House Down.

Sony picked up the title last week from Amazing Spider-Man writer James Vanderbilt. After shoving a piece of paper with $3 million written on it across a negotiating table in a winning bid, the studio quickly began to lock in a director.

Emmerich certainly knows how to orchestrate action, even if his tastes tend towards the mega-destructive side rather than the more focused beats of something that has been described as Die Hard Meets Air Force One. The plot details are currently still being kept secret but, let’s be honest, you can probably figure out most of it from the references. From the sounds of it, Emmerich is all but locked in, and expects to be shooting the movie in the autumn. Pyrotechnic and CG teams are already rubbing their hands together in glee.

Vanderbilt is in demand at the moment. He’s developing a Spider-Man sequel and has been working on Sony’s adaptation of Red Riding. And he’s also polishing the Robocop script for Jose Padilha.

terrible
now i love big dumb action movies from America and I think you can't really beat the first Die Hard, or the original Lethal Weapon for proper guts n guns mayhem but all this flag-waving-our-poor-old-president's-in-peril-in-his-ow n-house nonsense sounds just shit. And while we're at it, the effects in Independence Day were appalling. More

odd choice of words ...
He "damaged" the White House in "2012"? He had it swept away by a f***ing aircraft carrier riding a 250 ft. tsunami ... More

Cheesy fun
Hopefully this will borrow heavily from books like Vince Flynn's Transfer Of Power (which is just asking to be made into a cheesy action flick!), if so it should be a giggle. Also, doesn't a Nimitz class aircraft carrier landing on the White House constitute more than just damage? More

HMMMM!
Let's face it, he's never really made a great film! Independence Day was only any good because of the special effects, other than that I found it a bit of a bore and cheesy as hell! Day After Tomorrow was better but still bogged down with the Americans save the world crap! I didn't even bother with 2012 and this sounds like the same old tosh! More

From Watership Down to Black Hawk Down to Whitehouse Down
"Lock in a director." Christ almighty, what a limited vocabulary. Isn't this the same idea as Olympus Has Fallen? "Die Hard meets Air Force One", in other words, we've seen this movie already many, many times. More
