Hunger Games Stays Top Of US Box Office
Wrath Of The Titans lands in second

Hunger Games Stays Top Of US Box Office

Despite offering giant CG creatures and Sam Worthington’s extraordinary mullet, Wrath Of The Titans couldn’t displace the current box office behemoth across the pond, as The Hunger Games continued to dominate in its second week. The adaptation of the first part of Suzanne Collins’ trilogy took in a whopping $61.1 million in its second week, easily pushing it US total to more than $250 million so far. Wrath, meanwhile, managed a decent if uninspiring launch with $34.2 million, meaning it faces a struggle to recoup its reported $150 million budget.

That was still a better launch than Mirror Mirror, which kicked off its box office run with $19 million. 21 Jump Street, by comparison, earned $15 million in fourth despite having been out for three weeks already. Dr Seuss’ The Lorax rounded out the top five with $8 million.

John Carter was sixth, pulling in $2 million, while Ewan McGregor / Emily Blunt romantic drama Salmon Fishing In The Yemen added screens and jumped into the top 10 at seventh, making $1.2 million. Act Of Valour fell to eighth place, scoring $1 million, with A Thousand Words in ninth with $915,000 and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island in 10th earning $835,000 after four weeks of release.

To fend off the titans of statistics with a bow and arrow, head on over to Box Office Mojo.
