Two New Prometheus Trailers Arrive
'Big things have small beginnings...'

17 March 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: YouTube

submit to reddit

Like excitable ankle biters on Christmas morning, we’ve been patiently waiting for this and now we’re allowed to tear the virtual paper from the shiny toy and play with it to our hearts' content. Or, to put it another way that doesn’t strain a metaphor so far it breaks, the new full Prometheus trailer is online and by now you’re already watching it so we don’t know why we’re even bothering to write more.

We caught a little glimpse of this thing in the IMAX teaser that cropped up before the weekend, but this… This is something so much more. Though we’re fairly certain the marketing department will have had to hit the ever-secretive Ridley Scott with a tranquiliser dart to even let this much out, some of the story details are revealed, though nothing too spoilery, but be warned.

As opposed to the all-action teasers and trailers of the last few months, now we get a little bit of the build-up, with Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and the rest of the crew arriving on a mysterious planetoid, drawn by what they think is a map… But could really be an invitation. A life form begins to ping their sensors, something shocking happens, a discovery is made and… well, let’s just say that the budget clearly stretched to a whole lot of hell that is let loose.

Update! A new UK-variant trailer is also now online, so you can see that below, which puts a little more focus on the discovery aspect...

And the trailers are not the only new element. With Scott and co bringing the footage to WonderCon, the film’s viral campaign has also expanded, with a fresh video focused on Fassbender’s character. Take a gander.

Finally, Scott and writer Damon Lindelof took part in a live chat to help launch the trailer. You can a watch a replay of the discussion on Livestream.

Prometheus finally touches down on June 1. After viewing the latest footage, you’re going to wish that was tomorrow. Just like Christmas morning…

Director of...
Does seem strange that Ridley Scott is not referred to as Director of Alien. If there is a big connection to that film it is fairly well hidden in the trailors. Looks stunning visually, has a great cast. Like many have said - really hope it hasn't been toned down to accomodate a 12a certificate. Don't care what anyone says - too many films are ruined by conforming to lower certificates. More

looks brilliant but...
i was never a real fan of the alien movies either. just a thought here... if these aliens have all been to earth before and taught people what to do and how to survive (that's the basis of it isn't it?) then isn't that just a bit similar to quite a few other movies about aliens? and ufo theories going back for years? whatever, i don't care, think it looks awesome and i just hope its proper terrifying and they don't have to make it into some wimpy piece of 12A shit More

Very Interesting...
From the ancient hieroglyphs to that breast-shaped structure, there are A LOT of HR Giger's unused protype designs from the original Alien in there. A lot of unused concepts too - in earlier drafts of the Alien script, it was an alien temple the Nostromo/Leviathan/Snark crew discovered the Alien eggs in NOT a derelict spacecraft... More

trailer vs trailer
having whatched both a couple of times now i prefer the international one, give more away, follows better. however to me its a dead giveaway its going to be a 12 cert by the tunefull strings over the sirens in the trailer as opposed to the other trailer thats just sirens- makes it more friendly and i dare say slightly avatar ish?!? All is forgiven Mr Scott!
Well Mr Scott, you have done it again! This is an exquisite, exquisite trailer for what looks to be a brilliant return to something (reasonably) familiar. I was thinking though, it is just me or does Noomi Rapace sound very Welsh? At first i thought she was Eve Myles from Torchwood. But never mind. Am very much looking forward to this! More

Why are people so obsessed with second guessing everything? I don't get it. Surely if you're right, you've just ruined the film for yourself. It can't exactly be that satisfying, especially as everyone hates the person who says they knew what was going to happen all along. Just wait and see. Oh, and it looks awesome. The soundtrack, with the screams, is unbelievably terrifying. I really can't wait. More

Fassbender vs Holm
The trailer was amazing, genuinely so buzzed for the film. People that are complaining that it spoiled too much, how would you know without seeing the movie? Anyway, all that aside I wanted to address something that I'm not sure was deliberate or not. The final shot of the trailer, with the close up of Michael Fassbender delivering the line, 'big things have small beginnings' doesn't his mannerisms literally MIMICK Ian Holm in Alien before he goes beserk? Just a thought, but it looks so like him More

Awesome. Just awesome. It's completely engaging and doesn't feel anything like the by-the-numbers deep space horrors that tried to copy the original Alien. As for 'spoilers', grow up! What did people expect - it's in space and there's going to be a deadly threat! I'm just proud that a British director can still bring something exciting and capturing to a stale genre that he was one of the first to turn on its head in the first place. With the exception of Fassbender's, the line's delivered in that trailer seem to be almost half-arsed. Also, I have to agree it does seem very spoilery- too many events in the film are revealed. They could have asked the questions in the trailer without needing to provide answers and thus ruin some of the film's revelations. I hate to say it, but I'm beginning to think that this might be largely disappointing given the almost biblical levels of hype its production and (potential) ideas have More

More logic than twist, surely: parasite creatures take on the aspects of their hosts that facilitate survival, in this case, bipedal form and a survival instinct that, untempered by 'delusions of morality' gives form to 'the beast within.
