Simon Pegg Will Be Dengar
In the Clone Wars cartoon

Simon Pegg Will Be Dengar

Yesterday, Simon Pegg hit the Twitters and began dropping hints about a new job, one that would see him “annexe another fantasy universe, a big one.” Well, shortly after he made that teasing announcement, he put forth the truth: he’ll voice bounty hunter Dengar in an upcoming episode of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon.

Yes, the man who has already left a mighty stamp on JJ Abrams rebooted Star Trek universe as Scotty is now laying claim to a small corner of George Lucas’ space opera.

“Dengar is one of the elite,” Pegg tells EW. “If you’re on Darth Vader’s bounty hunter speed dial, you are the best in the galaxy.” While he only crops up very briefly in The Empire Strikes Back, Dengar has gone on to become a cult favourite as one of the hunters summoned to the Executor by Darth Vader and charged with tracking down Han Solo.

While we all know that Boba Fett was the one who got the job done, now we’ll get to see a little more of Dengar’s activities before that scene ever took place. To see a video clip of the animated Dengar in action, head on over to EW’s site.

The episode airs this Friday across the pond on the Cartoon Network. Unfortunately, we’ve yet to find out when – or even whether – it’ll screen over here.

Bear in mind, I'm referring to the closing stages of the fourth series. Going from the start, it's lighter and you have to watch them 'making' the envelope before they start to push it, but what the series can pull off really well by the time it's in full flight is massive changes in tone from one ep to the next, and total abandonment of the main cast for side stories and one off tales that sometimes hit much harder than you might have anticipated from any potential 'he's just miking a dead cow More

The type who sit moaning about how Lucas is ruining the trilogy by adding so much in and changing everything, who then run out to buy the Blu-Ray box set, thus funding Lucas's bank account. On the other hand, many people who criticised TPM when it came out, offered the chance to be in AOTC as some alien or whatever would have been equally 'hypocritical'. Pegg has taken the piss out of the geekdom as much as slagging off Lucas, what was it again, something like The Phantom Menace was two years ago/I know, but it still hurts? I enjoyed the original expanded universe novels before the prequels went and mucked it all up, and I have to say Dengar was an interesting character (he saved Boba Fett, after all). I despise the prequels but I gotta say, the Clone Wars CG Cartoon really has some fantastic episodes. There's a lot of subtle but brilliant nods to the original films - such as Anakin standing on display in a pit surrounded by slavers, he salutes to Artoo who is watching from a balcony, who then fires his lightsaber over to Anakin. Brilliant little things like that. And some of the stories are great too, like the threeparter set in the strange world where the Dark Side and Light Side of th More
