I have to agree Fierce, I can't help but get the feeling that PJ is being forced to comprimise a bit here; First the story in 2 films a la Potter/ Twilight, then 3D, now casting household family freindly names you can recognise, not that it's such a bad thing, but Fry and Connolly will need to tone it down a bit...
My understanding is that Del Torro wanted to keep it a simple contained children's story in one film, and then do the "bridge film". It was Jackson who wa More

Maybe Connely, who can't act, should concentrate on increasing the thickness o his skin and actually give the audiences on his current UK standup tour the full show they paid for. Connelly is a bit of an arse. Always has been. As for acting I just don't like him as an actor. More

What a very parochial article. People in the UK might have some familiarity with a bunch of British TV names, but the money comes from the US for whom most of those names are possibly even bigger nonentities than the original unknowns were.

I have the same worry - a big 'yes' to Billy in Mrs Brown, but other than that (see The Last Samurai where he even tried an Irish accent!) it's been Billy Connolly starring as Billy Connolly. Even more so with Stephen Fry. Outcome? One slight worry amidst my general hysterical excitement at the Hobbit movies returning us to PJ's Middle Earth. Please prove me wrong Peter Jackson (but even more so, Messrs Connolly and Fry!!) More

Understand what you're saying, though he was superb in Mrs Brown, but I think once he gets the 'dwarf costume' on, you won't think twice. Personally, I'm made up - this cast is just so fantastic. Sorry, but every time I've seen Billy Connolly in a movie it has killed the illusion because Billy Connolly only does Billy Connolly. Some people's personas are too big, too defined, to be reconfigured into the illusion of other characters. This reminds me of PJ casting Jack Black in King Kong... it didn't come off because one just keeps seeing Jack Black and not the character. And Connolly is less of an actor than Black. To be honest I have a similar problem with Stephen Fry in movies - just c More
