But it'll be big...

Smith Making Just One Hit Somebody Film

If you were looking forward to Kevin Smith’s ice jockey tale Hit Somebody arriving across two films to spread out what the director is describing as his likely last film directorial effort, you may end up disappointed. Because Smith has hit his usual PR channel – The Twitters – to casually drop word that he’s combining the two scripts he’s written into one big movie.

Hit Somebody will follow a plucky young puck slapper (played in later life by Red State’s Nicholas Braun) who makes his way from local leagues to the big time.

With the story spanning decades, Smith had originally intended to shoot it in two parts. But now, In response to a fan question, he revealed: “Writing script two, but now gonna make one big movie instead… Makes more sense anyway: the movie’s about taking one, good shot.”

Prompted for further info, he mentions the movie could hit the 150 minute mark, but that of course will all be decided once he gets to the editing room. The current plan is to kick off shooting in June and get the movie made in time to premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

And don’t think Smith will give up spending time behind the camera altogether: while he doesn’t have any films planned right now and has been devoting time to building his SModcast empire of podcast and TV output, there’s always a chance he’ll be lured back to calling the shots…
