| Readers of George RR Martin will recognise the phrase "red wedding", but the Freys and the Starks never quite had to contend with anything like this. The third instalment in the Rec franchise, Genesis, is almost upon us, heralding two new trailers detailing the carnage at Leticia Dolera's "special day". They're similar, but not quite the same. The trailer up at Bloody Disgusting is the English-subtitled version, which sets up the premise of the spreading undead infection, has messy deaths and jokes, and does a good job of showing this film's breaking-out from the series' signature handheld POV to a more conventional widescreen style. But it's tame compared to the Spanish-language version, up at Shock, which has military intervention and chainsaws. Rec 3: Genesis is a prequel to the previous two entries, filling in the back-story about how the catholic-zombie-rabies infection "left the building": the building in question apparently being this wedding venue. How it got in there in the first place is another question. Maybe it was the salmon mousse. The link to what went on in that attic in the apartment building of Rec and Rec 2 also remains to be seen, but the series has been so utterly mad so far that we'll probably accept anything. Along with the aforementioned Dolera, the film stars Javier Botet, and is directed by Paco Plaza, who is half of the team behind the other two. His cohort Jaume Balaguero has been working on Rec 4: Apocalypse at the same time. You can probably infer where the series is headed. Or actually, probably not... No date for Apocalypse yet, but Genesis, at least in Spain and France, is out in the spring. |
