Jeremy Renner On Bourne Legacy
Exclusive: Learn his character's name

Jeremy Renner On Bourne Legacy

No movie has attracted quite as much speculation in recent years as the Bourne sequel/reboot/thingamajig. Rumour and counter-rumour have swirled around the project like mist around Prometheus. When Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass demurred and Jeremy Renner and Tony Gilroy stepped up, the question was: who is Renner playing and how would The Bourne Legacy fit into the existing universe?

Well, Empire put those questions to the man himself. "My character is called Aaron Cross," Renner told us, "but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it's a new programme and new characters."

So is Treadstone still involved? "Yeah, it's that same deal, it's just a new set of agents with a different leash. It's the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you'll know it's a Bourne movie."

Speaking of bigger and more expansive, Renner's star is firmly in the ascendant. Next up for the Californian is Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, followed by three major tentpoles in 2012: Bourne, The Avengers and Hansel And Gretel: Witchhunters.

Bourne Legacy is out on August 17, 2012. Check back next month for Empire's full interview with Renner.

RE: Exclusive: Jeremy Renner Talks Bourne
I'm still not sold on Jeremy Renner. I feel like i'm being force fed the idea that he's an A-list star, when I don't see him that way at all. The same thing happened with Matthew Mconaughy when EdTV came out. More

Renner Being Stretched Too Thin
Is he suddenly the only good actor able to do the action genre. Being poised to take over the Mission: Impossible franchise, Bourne franchise and now Hawkeye? Whew. Maybe Im not used to seeing one actor play so many (possibly) iconic characters, even though Harrison Ford made himself a legend doing it. But Renner is no Harrison Ford. And these franchise films are iconic even when their heroes arent, hence innerchangable characters under the same titles. Hmmmm More

I can only hope that this one will be as good as the triology. I absolutely love Jeremy Renner More

I THINK WE ARE ALL LUCKY TO GET ANOTHER ONE...
With Matt Damon uninterested in making a Bourne without Paul Greengrass (why does he get all the Kudos? Doug Liman made the first, and in my opinion best Bourne film) we are treated to a look at the Bourne world from the perspective of a different operative, this could be awesome, and if it turns out that Matt wants to return it'll be huge. RE: But... But....
I don't care what they call it as long as it's of the same high quality as the first three. Really like Renner too, seems like a good choice to follow Damon. Maybe the Bourne franchise will become the new Bond with a new leading actor every four or five films. More

But... But....
It's not a Bourne movie. Matt Damon is Jason Bourne and as the character doesn't feature then surely a Treadstone movie or an Aaron Cross movie. That's like calling a film about a theme park from the future "Jurassic Park" More
