Rampart Trailer Online
Woody Harrelson is the law

21 November 2011  |  Written by James White

Coming off as a cross between Training Day and episodes of gritty police drama The Shield, Rampart has been generating some Oscar heat for Woody Harrelson in his role as a decidedly dodgy cop. Check out the trailer below.

Harrelson stars as Dave Brown, an LAPD officer whose grasp of justice is a bit loose and light, preferring to play by his own rules rather than strictly stick to the police playbook. A Vietnam veteran with his own code of ethics, his worldview is called into question when he’s caught on tape delivering a violent smackdown to a suspect. But can his uncompromising attitude survive even as his personal life spirals out of control and the investigators close in?

Rampart sees the actor reunited with Oren Moverman, who gave him another solid role in The Messenger. And once again, Moverman’s nabbed a great supporting cast, including Messenger co-star Ben Foster, Ice Cube, Anne Heche, Robin Wright, Sigourney Weaver, Cynthia Nixon, Ned Beatty and Steve Buscemi.

America gets the film on November 23, but it’ll arrive over here on February 10, 2012.

RE: Re:Why Rampart?
Really like the look of this. Dirty cops and their dirty deeds always have great cinematic potential but some of the more recent efforts have been a bit of a let down (I'm thinking Street Kings, Brooklyn's Finest, Pride & Glory). The Shield originally drew on all that Rampart scandal for it's inspiration if I'm not mistaken but went too OTT in some seasons. With James Ellroy on writing duty this could be brilliant; nobody writes crooked cops and twisted morality like Ellroy. Let's hope this More

Re:Why Rampart?
The name is related to a now defunct LAPD unit that were up to all type of Vic mackey type activities in the 90's, such as:unprovoked shootings, unprovoked beatings, planting of evidence, framing of suspects, stealing and dealing narcotics, bank robbery, perjury, and covering up evidence of these activities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rampart_sca ndal More

Why Rampart?
Open question, just wondering what people think about movie titles. A rampart is a type of defensive wall so I can kind of see where the title comes from if you think about the police department putting up their defences to protect him maybe? More
