Kristen Stewart Offered Akira Role?
She may be Kei

15 November 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Twitch

Kristen Stewart Offered Akira Role?

She’s usually found getting all moody over vampire beau Edward in the Twilight films, but Kristen Stewart has been establishing herself elsewhere with a mix of indie movies and the upcoming Snow White And The Huntsman. Now Warners thinks she might just be right for the cast of Akira, sending out an offer for her to play Kei.

The long-gestating film finds bike gang leader Kaneda (Garrett Hedlund, provided he too locks down a deal) dealing with what happens when his best friend Tetsuo is the subject of a government experiment – one that threatens to unlock the lad’s frightening psychic potential and may end up destroying an entire city.

Stewart is being courted to play Kei, a young medium who falls for Kaneda. If she does end up joining the cast, she may appear alongside Helena Bonham Carter and Gary Oldman, who are also in talks. While her Twilight pedigree will probably cause strong reactions to this news, both positive and negative, it's worth remembering that she has a long history in indie movies and is not inherently uncool.

Director Jaume Collet-Sera is looking to kick off filming on Akira in March.

Change the title!
If they have to do this I don't see a problem with them using ideas and concepts from Akira, but they should properly Westernise it (drop all the Jap names for a start!) and make it a unique and relevant story in it's own right (like Departed did perfectly with Infernal Affairs) I really don't see how it benefits them to release it under the Akira title - anyone who knows and loves the manga or the anime will not want to see a horrible hollywood bastard version, and the title doesn't mean any More

Should of been laid to rest...
I'm kinda hoping this is going to flop. At least then Hollywood will realise that they can't just take something like this and 'Americanise' it so they can make a quick buck which will stop them from doing this again to other Manga classics. Just leave it alone - you can't improve upon perfection! More

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There has never been a more pointless remake ever annouced! Who is this going to be for? Idiots who are too lazy to watch the original because it's sub-titled and doesn't star an American that's who! Why do studios keep Pandering to these people? Anyone who truely cares about Akira already knows this movies is gonna suck, adding her is just an extra poke in the eye from what is already a very shitty stick. More

Akira fans are already pissed about this movie but casting her is like putting a Klan member in The Colour Purple. More
