Immortals Slays The US Box Office

Tarsem Singh and Relativity Media’s prayers were answered this weekend as Gods ‘n’ warriors epic Immortals conquered the US box office with a decent $32 million launch. Adam Sandler’s latest comedy Jack And Jill had to make do with kicking off in second place and $26 million.

The two big new arrivals shoved Puss In Boots down to third, though the adventurous moggie only slipped 22% for $25.5 million, more than enough to stay ahead of Tower Heist in fourth with $13.2 million. And Clint Eastwood’s latest drama, J. Edgar, could only rustle up a fifth-place launch, taking in $11.4 million.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas dropped to sixth place from third with $5.9 million, while In Time was seventh with $4.1 million. Paranormal Activity 3 fell to eighth and $3.6 million, with Footloose at ninth with $2.7 million. And rounding out the top 10 was Real Steel, which took $2 million this weekend.

To battle the forces of chart-powered evil, head on over to Box Office Mojo.
