Empire's Mission: Impossible Cover Lands
Cruise into your nearest newsagent

Dodgy puns aside, the December issue of Empire gives plenty of reasons to get excited. Not the least of them is the return of Tom Cruise to the front cover for the first time since May 2006. It's a big "welcome back" to a bona fide movie star and a taster for an exclusive chat with the man himself about a variety of topics, from the return of Ethan Hunt and the decision to shoot with IMAX cameras, to the controversy that's his casting as Jack Reacher.

The fourth outing for Hunt and the good people of IMF (the other one) already has a seriously saucy trailer, plus a dossier's worth of pics showing Cruise dangling from a variety of improbable locations, so the presence of Pixar alum Brad 'The Incredibles' Bird, the franchise's fourth director, has clearly injected new jeopardy and fizz back into things.

Cruise certainly thinks so. "[Brad and I] talked a lot about 'popcorn moments," he tells Empire. "You know, where you want to grab your popcorn. That's what I always hoped Mission would be for an audience. And I really think we've nailed it."

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is out on December 26. Empire: Magazine - December Issue, meanwhile, is out on October 27. It won't self-destruct, although it may go a bit curly at the edges if you leave it in the damp.

must see
I will definitely see MI4 on opening wknd...Brad Bird is going to make this the best MI of the series....on the other hand, the casting of Cruise as Jack Reacher is an absolute travesty and sell out by all parties involved...Lee Child had one shot to get the casting of this character right and he basically responded w an FU to his loyal readers...I lost all respect for him and will not be buying anymore of his books (not that he gives a F about what I or anyone else thinks) More

Great. Just Bloody Great...
...I'm guessing half this month's issue will be filled with LOTR bollocks. Thanks a sodding bunch! More

Love the M:I films...
It's just a shame that annoying and utterly uncharismatic squirt Renner is in it. He seems to be the new Sam Worthington. Hopefully both their careers come to an end soon. And who knows maybe we'll get another dull up and coming actor pushed into the limelight! More

'I'm very sensitive to it!' - Tom Cruise talks Jack Reacher casting
Well Mr Cruise, so are the Jack Reacher fans and I am sue that their views should outweigh yours! Maybe if they film 'One Shot' similar to the cover of Empire (i.e. with everyone a lot smaller), Tom Cruise may be OK as Reacher!!! More
