New Red Band Trailer For The Thing
RUN!

19 September 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: IGN

We’ve had a couple of trailers for The Thing (the prequel to, er, The Thing), but now comes a “Red Band” variant with a little more blood ‘n’ killing, largely thanks to more footage featuring the creature. There are some relatively quick glances at the nasty beastie itself, but if you’re looking to see the movie unspoiled (and assuming you haven't seen the original), you might want to skip the footage below.

The Thing, of course, finds palaeontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) sent to the Antarctic to join a Norwegian research team that has discovered something odd lurking beneath the ice. When she arrives, she learns that they’ve stumbled on a crashed alien spacecraft that has been buried for thousands of years… one that contains a seemingly dead creature.

But this being the prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 chiller, we all know it’s not as dormant as they think. Soon, a simple tissue sample procedure awakens the critter and it gets to work killing off and replacing the people at the research station. Kate doesn’t know who she can trust. Who is still human? She’ll need to team up with pilot Sam Carter (Joel Edgerton) to survive…

From the looks of this, the creature’s certainly in keeping with Carpenter’s, even if it is now created through a blend of CG and physical work as opposed to the original’s all-practical terror. Can the new film live up to the original? That’s a bigger question, and one that will be answered when it creeps into our cinemas on December 2.

Surprising
I wasn't expecting that - it actually looks quite good. They've really gone to town on the creature and this could be good old movie in the same vein as Carpenter's. Also has a feel of Aliens about it which is a good thing too... More

Voodoo bullshit
Yeap, looking forward to this but not putting my hopes too high as i have been stung before *sniff*. The Thing is my favourite horror of all time and the trailer looks good so fingers crossed. More

CREEPY
Yep, this does actually look pretty goodand fairly creepy too and the 'thing' effects look to be faithful to the effects of the original but with a touch of modern way of doing things! I will actually be in the states when this gets its US release so I will hopefully catch it there. More

I have to admit
That I'm getting quite excited about this. Obviously it's going to copy a lot of things from Carpenter's version but, there looks to be enough new stuff to make it an enjoyable movie. Loving the creature design and if you pause it (sad I know) on the splitting heads it's very faithful indeed.. bring it on More

Looks awesome!
Sadly though the trailer gives WAY to much away. Still gonna watch it though! More

I'm not quite holding my breath
The problem with that red band trailer is that it gives away who becomes the thing, and the integral element of suspense in the original is not knowing who was or wasn't the thing. And I'm still skeptical because apart from considering The Thing as my personal greatest-horror-movie-of-all time, quite simply - its a prequel. And prequels rarely work because its backstory, mere exposition that adds nothing that we already know. More

me likey
of course the original is a classic but this looks good to me, and the CGI looks well used (apart from the alien/ice escape bit) More
