William Monahan Working On Sin City 2
He's giving the script a polish

William Monahan Working On Sin City 2

Just yesterday it was reported that Departed scribe William Monahan was looking to reunite with the film’s director Martin Scorsese for a remake of 1974 drama The Gambler. Now comes word of a geekier project on his schedule, with Monahan being brought in to work his Oscar-scooping magic on the script for Sin City 2.

While co-writers/directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller have been developing the sequel for years, it’s had to wait for Rodriguez’ schedule to open up and for the funding to lock into place. That was announced at Comic-Con, along with the Austin auteur revealing some of the material that will be used: "Frank has written a script for Sin City 2. It’s called A Dame to Kill For. We’re following the structure of the first film with 3 stories and a wrap-around. There's two new stories in there; one is called The Long Bad Night. It could be shot as early as this year – this is the closest we’ve been and if it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen this year."

Even though Miller is the man behind Sin City in its graphic novel form, it appears that both he and Rodriguez think the latest draft could benefit from Monahan’s touch, so he’s been hired to polish it up.

It’s not the only thing he’s working on right now either: Monahan was also one of the writers who worked on Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski’s next pic, Horizons (formerly Oblivion), which is now looking for actresses to star alongside Tom Cruise…

RE: I'm not holding my breath
This would have been cool a couple of years ago, maybe. Does anyone still care for a sequel? More

RE: I'm not holding my breath
For Sin City to carry on as a franchise, they had better hope that the ticket-buying public opt to forget how The Spirit turned out. More

I'm not holding my breath
This has been on the cards since 2005 and it never got going. I won't be surprised at all if this doesn't happen. All the actors have visibly aged in the last 6 years too and Rodriguez has been very off his game. I'd like to see this a lot more than another fixing Spy Kids. More

It should have happened sooner, strike whilst the iron's HOT
Rodriguez has made his worst movies since Sin City - Shorts, Machete, Spy Kids 4. He's definitely lost a lot of his former cred, yet I would LOVE to see this blow me away and then get a part 3 going if successful. Let's get the seriously messed up hallucination sequence from Hell and Back in there somewhere. More
