Rosamund Pike Gets One Shot
Jack Reacher gets a female lead

Rosamund Pike Gets One Shot

As reported not seven days ago, writer/director Christopher McQuarrie and the good folk at Paramount have been hard at work putting three actresses through their paces to cast One Shot's female lead. Well, time waits for no-one, not even Jack Reacher (although he'd punch it in the face if he ever found out). The votes are in and a decision has been reached: as Deadline Hollywood reports, Rosamund Pike is on the verge of signing up for the Reacher campaign.

Pike, so good lately in Barney's Version and An Education, joins Tom Cruise in the Reacher saga. All the talk so far has been on the height discrepancy between Cruise and his character, so it's worth pointing out that he gives away a couple of inches on Pike too. But, seriously, who's measuring? Ahem.

As its many fans will know, One Shot sees Reacher putting his muscular frame and thunderdome-sized brain to work puzzling out the case of a lone sniper. The man has been charged with the murder of five men, but is all as it seems or are darker forces at work? Helping him find out will be Pike's Helen Rodin, a local defence lawyer assigned to defend the supposed shooter.

Pike is an actress we're very keen on in this parish. She's talented and boasts a flawless American accent. We can't see her in a gun battle, but Reacher is more than capable of taking care of the shooting-and-punching business. Hayley Atwell and Clash Of The Titan's Alexa Davalos are the unlucky two to miss out.

The One Shot shoot gets underway soon, with a theatrical release scheduled for early 2013.

RE: cruise? bad bad idea!
e completely. It's the same with the mission impossible movies which i point out it's not really tom cruise's fault, but was changed from being a series about a bunch of clever agents who used different gadgets and disguises to achieve their goals instead of getting into gun fights, high speed car chases, and climbing a cliff without any safety equipment or stunt man that has been focus of those three films, look what happened to the robert crais book hostage that was made into a film and turne More

cruise? bad bad idea!
Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher would be as wrong as casting mark wahlberg as Bob Lee Swagger (another fictional action icon) in 'the Shooter' or even Chris evans as 'cap'. it would completely miss the spirit embodied by the character ' Jack Reacher' as presented in the novels. if youve read the books youll know what I mean. A 6'5" man carries himself , speaks, postures etc rather differently from a 5'6" man and much of the characteristion of Jack Reacher in the books revolves around the More

RE: sigh
ot just his height it's the fact that cruise isn't the right person for jack reacher, i know it and so do the rest of the book's fans. More

sigh
I must say, Cruise may not be right for this BUT, the stick he gets from evryone about his height, all the feckin time is a bit tired. Hes 5'8, which isnt actualy that short. Jason Statham is between 5'9 and 5'10 himself but never gets mentioned about him. Hollwyood has quite a few short actors but they never get the same stick. I just find this wierd. More

A common complaint
No way the mighty midget that is Tom Cruise should be Jack Reacher. The only way he will get away with this is if the rest of the cast are vertically challenged. What an ego the guy has thinking he can get away with this role, he would be better as the part of the Sec. bugger! More

Oh Dear
Oh dear so it seems this abomination of film casting that is Tom (midget) Crusie as Jack Reacher is actually coming to fruition... Lee Child; go commit suicide as your fans will be after your head for allowing this to happen! More

you CANNOT be Serious
The first time I heard that Tom thumb...I mean Cruise was going to play reacher I thought they were joking. It's pointless, I'm not such a purist to think that they can't deviate from the books a bit, after all bond went blonde and it worked out OK. However, with reacher the sheer physicality of the character is a major component of the story. Doesn't he *mild spoiler alert* crush a chap to death with his bare hands in this book? If Cruise tried to do to me that I'm fairly certain that not More

damn you cruise
I'm really not happy about this at all, neither is everyone else here's an idea why not they just not make the movie at all and leave reacher to our own imaginations. I hate to think of the reasons why lee child has allowed tom cruise to buy the rights to it, but it always comes down to money. Look what happened to robert crais's book hostage they made a film out of that and that was rubbish and it look's like they are going to spoil reacher as well. But if they should pick jason statham who More

only Tom Cruise's ego is big enough !
Tom Cruise bought the rights to one shot and I think they can make a good film out of it but I just hope they dont try and make Tom the Jack Reacher ! They could make this a stand alone film as there is no real need for Jack Reacher to be the man mountain he is in the books in this film . I have read all the Jack Reacher books and I'm a big fan , for me Tom Cruise could never be Jack Reacher but I think that Kevin Durand would make a brilliant Jack Reacher ! More

So disappointed
I've read all the books and you can't help but try to picture who would play Reacher. Jason Stateham came to mind (tall, butch, not much hair), but some of the suggestions above are good too. One name that definitely didn't come anywhere near my mind was Tom Cruise - unbelievable. Just makes me think the film will be nothing like the books and not worth going to see. Rubbish. More

Bad bad casting!
The person who cast Cruise has never read the books then! Each book actually has Reachers bio, so they wouldnt need to read them fully! Jeffrey Dean Morgan would be a decent choice, hadnt thought of him before wales123 said him. More

No no no, this about mr cruise as reacher, as a fan of the books tom does not suit the character at all. If I could pick someone it would probably be jeffrey dean Morgan, he's big enough to take the role and has the acting chops to take another lead role. Jeffers all the way!! More
